What is PVC? 

All of our products are made using premium grade all-weather 1/2" thick PVC (Polyvinyl chloride) board. Think of it as the same thing that exterior trim is made from, or a compressed PVC pipe material. PVC is 100% weatherproof and intended for outdoor use, in both tropical and cold climates, even in the harshest conditions, like Florida's sunshine & salt air. Unlike wood or metal products, it can be hung in direct sun & weather exposure, and will not yellow, mildew, crack or rust, and is impenetrable to moisture and insects. It's a durable and weather resistant material for year-round use, making it perfect for exterior home decor.

What makes our products better quality than the competition?

The PVC we source for our products is unique in that it is not foam-filled (like most others use), but is a solid compressed PVC board, resulting in a sturdier, more resilient finished product. Because our PVC is a more solid and sturdy material, it is not easily scratched or dented. All of our products are artisan crafted by us. We design and cut each sign to order, to ensure precision and accuracy. Additionally, we take the time to sand every sign by hand after it is cut, for a smooth finish product. We do all the prep work for you, so it's ready to either hang or paint. We are proud to offer a premium product that we stand behind.

Can PVC be painted?

Yes! Our products will arrive white and already sanded and prepped for painting. We suggest using an exterior acrylic based paint to paint your sign. There is no need to prime or seal it when painting, since it's already a weatherproof material. Spraying is best to get even coats, but you can also use a brush to apply thin, even coats. 

Please note that we do not recommend painting PVC dark colors if installed in areas that get direct sunlight. Dark pigments in the paint absorb significantly more heat from the sun than lighter colors, transferring this intense heat to the PVC material underneath. While PVC naturally expands and contracts with temperature changes, the excessive, uneven heat from dark paint can cause it to expand too much to return to its original dimensions when it cools, leading to warping. We recommend using a high quality exterior acrylic latex paint with a light reflective value (LRV) of 55 or higher. There are also specialized vinyl safe paints specifically made for dark colors. We recommend speaking to a paint specialist regarding vinyl safe paint for dark colors. 

How do I hang my product?

We do not include hanging hardware with our products. We recommend using # 6 or # 8 stainless steel screws to secure your sign to an exterior structure. If attaching to a wood structure, it can be attached using only screws. For stucco, concrete block or brick, we recommend using plastic anchors in addition to the screws. For siding, you can use siding clips with screws. In some cases (such as shutter embellishments), you may alternatively use exterior epoxy or PVC glue instead of screws. We ONLY recommend securing exterior signage with screws, as mounting tape and other methods will not secure against wind and other weather elements.

DO NOT hang our products between a front door and glass storm door. This creates an extreme heat pocket, and the glass reflection could magnify the sun and warp the PVC. While PVC is designed to withstand direct sunlight and outdoor weather exposure, sunlight reflecting through the glass can intensify the heat to temperatures well above normal outdoor conditions, creating a heat pocket. If the temperature around the sign reaches approximately 140°F or higher, the PVC could potentially warp.

What are Pilot Holes?

When you select the customizations for your sign, choose if you would like for us to add pre-drilled pilot holes in your sign or not. If you request for us to add holes, your sign will arrive with small pilot holes drilled into the front of the sign for placement. The number of holes will vary based on the shape and size of your sign. The front side of the sign is the side with the larger pilot holes, as the holes are intended as a placement guide for you to easily insert screws, for you to drill the screws all the way through the front of the sign and into the structure to properly secure. You can also easily drill screws through the PVC without needing pilot holes, if you select "no holes" and prefer to add screws in the placement of your choice. 

How do I clean my product?

PVC can easily be cleaned using a mix of dish detergent and water. Feel free to spray it with a hose to get off bugs and debris, and wipe it with a soapy sponge for a deeper clean. 

Are your window shutters functional storm or hurricane shutters?

No — our shutters are purely decorative, fixed exterior décor that mount permanently flat against your home's siding. They do not open, close, hinge, or swing over your windows, and are not operable storm shutters, hurricane shutters, or impact-rated panels. They carry no wind-load or impact-protection certification.

That said, they are built to last outdoors: crafted from the same solid, compressed PVC board used across all of our products, they are 100% weatherproof and rated for year-round exterior exposure — including Florida sunshine, salt air, and tropical humidity — without yellowing, cracking, mildewing, or rusting. They are built to live in the weather, not to protect against it.

Recap: When is PVC not recommended for outdoor use?

PVC is extremely durable and designed for outdoor use, but there are a few situations where we do not recommend it: (1) Avoid installing PVC décor between a front door and a glass storm door, as trapped and reflected heat can create excessively high temperatures that may cause warping. (2) If you choose to paint your PVC product, avoid very dark paint colors, as darker colors absorb more heat. We recommend choosing a paint color with a Light Reflectance Value (LRV) above 55. (3) Proper installation is essential to the longevity of your sign. Always securely fasten your sign to an exterior structure using screws.

Outside of these situations, PVC is an excellent choice for outdoor décor and signage. It is designed to withstand direct sun, rain, moisture, salt air, and changing weather conditions.
